Simple!
Role Playing (RP) is when you type and or act out the attitudes, and actions of your character. You pretty much become the character and you put a little bit of yourself in it.
When you role play it is important that you only be your character, you cannot be others'. Also make sure you put in detail if you find yourself running low on words and stigma. Interact with many different characters to see how their Rping skills are compared to yours and improve. Make sure you also make your character do things (action). You just don't want your character to be sitting there the whole time just talking. Put in a tail movement, or paw gesture. There are two different role playing styles you can practice, and or use. Third (which I prefer most), and first. The Don't be afraid to use them. But the most important thing is have fun and be creative!
You may find some people around the site putting (OOC) in a thread. It means (out of character) and they do that when they are putting comments in for the other player to read. It's acceptable just as long you have a role play post to go along with that. That's the only exception to generally speaking in the territory threads.
Role Playing Example:
(Lets say this is you) - Star: Star padded through the thick trees of the forest, her paws steps light. She watched her breath billow up from her mouth and into the endless black sky. A slight breeze ruffled her chest hair as she continued forward. Then she heard a sharp snap and a threatening growl in the shadows of the trees. Her fur stood on end and her blazing ember eyes glowing with fear. She swallowed the ball that swelled in her throat and managed to call out, "is anybody there?" Silence. Another stick snapped under a heavy predators' paw.
(Other player, NOT YOU!) - Scar: Scar stepped out of the shadows, his paws dug firmly in the ground, the smell of fear overwhelmed his scenes, he knew this was going to be an easy kill. He was a rogue, who was on the prowl to kill any other wolf that was in his way or sworn to stop him. He was a big wolf, with scars that riddled his dirty brown coat. His eyes looked as if they where red from blood, the blood of his victims. "Hello, pup," he sneered wagging his tail nastily.
